Blue Valley Golf and Country Estate

General Information

Blue Valley Golf and Country Estate lies midway between Johannesburg and Pretoria overlooking the verdant banks of the meandering Rietspruit.

This upmarket development includes approximately 1 300 freehold residential stands, ranging in size from 500m2 to 1 200m2, and features an 18-hole championship Gary Player signature golf course. The architectural theme is predominantly Tuscan. A full driving range and chipping area is available to all golfers as well as the Golf Academy run by renowned teaching professional, Muss Gammon.

The landscaping theme is indigenous, with extensive use of highveld tree species. The golf course has been designed to fully utilise the natural features of the area, while simultaneously providing the golfer with a memorable and challenging golfing experience. Bunkers represent a more traditional design, having steep grass faces. Putting greens are planted with L93 bent grass and feature soft undulations, which offer an interesting challenge to golfers.

On Course
Holes 1 and 10: These testing par fours are the signature holes of the course and share a single green measuring 2 000m2, reportedly the largest in South Africa. Separating the fairways is a cascading water feature, which flows into a large pond guarding the front of both greens.

Hole 11: The most difficult hole on the course, this demanding par four presents the choice of hitting to a fairway to the left or right of the stream. However this hole invariably plays into the prevailing north wind.

Course Rating
Blue Valley is a par 72 layout:

Championship Tees 73
Club Tees 71
Ladies Tees 70

Rated in the top 30 golf courses in South Africa by Compleat Golfer and top 100 by Golf Digest in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

Life on the Green
Surrounded by distant Blue Hills, and reflecting cobalt blue skies in its many dams and water features, this Gary Player signature golf estate, is a secure and tranquil haven, where residents
and their children can enjoy a serene “active–by–choice” lifestyle.

Blue Valley Golf and Country Estate has 24-hour security with electric fencing around the entire perimeter. Families are able to enjoy cycling and long carefree walks along the meandering cart paths, and experience some stunning late afternoon sunsets in the clear Gauteng air, or enjoy sundowners on the clubhouse terrace. Bird life on the estate is prolific, with numerous species making their home in the wetlands and the surrounding valley.

Off Course
The clubhouse combines aesthetic excellence with well-balanced practicality, and incorporates finishes and facilities of the highest standards.

Among the wide range of facilities on offer within the main clubhouse are:

  • A superbly appointed members lounge
  • A gallery overlooking the first, 10th and 18th greens
  • A spa and wellness centre.
  • Tennis and squash courts
  • Cycling and jogging tracks.

The completion of the new clubhouse to specifications and finishes well beyond those promised by Mitrajaya, has already had a positive spin-off with player numbers on the rise and bookings for functions increasing steadily. The developers approached the siting of the new clubhouse with the objective of blending high aesthetic values with a pleasing ambiance and well-thought through layout. Water features have been incorporated into the overall design to enhance the ambiance and to add a further dimension to the facility.

On arrival, guests park in a landscaped, fan-shaped parking lot that guides them towards either the golf facilities or the imposing porte cochère clubhouse entrance through to the formal lounge and conference rooms.

An imperative built into the clubhouse design parameters was the need to ensure that organisers of golfing tournaments would have a commanding view of both the 1st and 10th tee-offs and the finishing 18th green. This has been accomplished by the provision of extensive balconies and viewing windows providing panoramic views of not only the crucial holes but also of the magnificent course.

Golf Academy
The golf academy includes a computerised training facility, driving range and four-hole chip and putt course adjacent to the main clubhouse.

Restaurant
The restaurant boasts a balcony and spectator gallery overlooking the 18th hole and providing a spectacular vantage point.

Conferences / Functions
A 250-seat banquet hall, a boardroom for 30 people and two smaller function rooms have been incorporated into the main clubhouse structure.
